While filming a horror movie of mummy in a forest, the students and their professor of the University of Pittsburgh hear on the TV the news that the dead are awaking and walking. Ridley and Francine decide to leave the group, while Jason heads to the dormitory of his girlfriend Debra Monahan. She does not succeed in contacting her family and they travel in Mary's van to the house of Debra's parents in Scranton, Pennsylvania. While driving her van, Mary sees a car accident and runs over a highway patrolman and three other zombies trying to escape from them. Later the religious Mary is depressed, questioning whether the victims where really dead, and tries to commit suicide, shooting herself with a pistol. Her friends take her to a hospital where they realize that the dead are indeed awaking and walking and they need to fight to survive while traveling to Debra's parents house.

During a weekend at the family cottage in the woods, Steve, a soft-hearted corporate analyst, gets stung by a zombie killer mosquito right before his wedding with Tina, a bossy beautician. Together with them, is Steve's sister Sarah and her friend Greg, who really wish that Steve will soon come to his senses and realise that Tina is just not good for him. In the meantime, without knowing it, a team of zombie hunters, Max, a cold-blooded exterminator and Penny, a scientist with a blue zombie-tracking orb, are in the same woods looking for the undead. When Steve's pulse will begin to fade while at the same time his appetite for human brains will grow bigger, it will be obvious enough that the change has already begun, however, according to Tina, this will be only a minor setback before the big day. Eventually, Steve as a hybrid with his mutated DNA would help in the cure for the infection, but nevertheless, Max and Penny will still have to pass through Tina who really wants to get married.

In the Plum Island, off the coast of Delaware, the long feud between the families of the patriarchs Captain Patrick O'Flynn (Kenneth Welsh) that intends to eliminate the zombies and Seamus Muldoon (Richard Fitzpatrick) that intends to keep his undead relatives waiting for a cure culminates with O'Flynn expelled from Plum. Meanwhile in the continent Sarge "Nicotine" Crocket (Alan Van Sprang), Chuck (Joris Jarsky), Cisco (Stefano DiMatteo) and Tomboy (Athena Karkanis) are plundering and seeking a safe place to stay. When they rescue the young Boy (Devon Bostick) from group of sadistic hunters, Boy decides to join the group and suggests them to head to Plum Island since he had heard a O'Flynn's broadcast inviting people to move to the island. When Sarge and his team arrive in the island, they are attacked by Muldoon's men and they see that the place is crowded of undead. Sarge's friend Chuck is killed and they decide to fight against Muldoon.

Story of a young Wyatt Earp before he became a lawman. When someone important to him is killed he sets out to find the one responsible. He is joined by some friends among whom are Bat Masterson and Doc Holliday.
